ELUSIVE PLACE
I am drawn to the gestural qualities of objects that occupy a space and the visual poetry that arises between them. I am interested in the way these objects become seemingly functionless when taken out of the context of their specified environment. By employing the parameters of the photographic image, these transient spaces and objects can be experienced as a paradigm of the nature of the shifting boundaries of the urban periphery. Much of the space I am concerned with is embedded with the trace and presence of social activity. With these spaces lacking a specific function, the objects within them take on an uncertain significance, offering a new, unintentional demarcation or definition of place. By being taken out of context of their original purpose, I see these motifs as statuesque or monumental representations of that place.
